All document management systems need to
store information on to some form of media. Today, media can come in many formats,
sizes, and prices. Examples of some of the storage media typically used for document
management include, CD-ROM, Magneto Optical (MO), Write Once Read Many (WORM), RAID, DVD,
Magnetic Disk, Tape, ZIP, Jazz... These are the same types of media used by many
other types of information. Up a couple of years ago, document management typically
relied on storage media like MO, or WORM. Depending on your requirements, you may
still want to use this media as it is easily transferred offsite and the shelf-life is
many years. In order to maintain large amounts of WORM or CD data, a jukebox may be
employed. A jukebox is a unit that houses sometimes hundreds of CD-ROM, MO, or WORM.
